chalk Rock endurance ride cancelled for 2024 Ride dates for 2025 May 24th & 25th 2025
Chalk Rock Endurance Ride The Redwood Empire Endurance Riders (REER) invite you to experience the Chalk Rock Endurance Ride.
Since 1975, the Barnwell Family has graciously helped Redwood Empire Endurance Riders host our Chalk Rock Endurance Ride. Established in 1884, their ranch is a model for timber harvest practices recognized by state and federal agencies. It is also a working cattle ranch. Riders love the stunning panoramic views as they ride through meadows and around the beautiful Chalk Mountain.
RIDER LIMIT: This ride is limited to 70 riders combined for all distances. We also have a 45-vehicle limit and encourage ride-sharing. As we approach capacity, corral space may be limited. Entry requests will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis. Historically, the ride has filled to its limit. Please plan accordingly and submit your ride application early.
THE TRAIL: Now a two-day ride, Chalk Rock will have an LD and a 50-miler on both days. Trails are primarily on both maintained and older/ unmaintained logging roads. Depending on the recent weather, this lends to having harder and softer footing throughout the ride. Like all REER rides, there are elevation changes. The weather is usually calm and humid in the mornings, with the possibility of warm and sunny afternoons. Hoof protection is suggested. This is a ride, not a race. RIDE CAMP: Ride camp is a bi-level grassy meadow bordered by redwood trees and a creek. Horse water will be troughed from the creek. Please bring your drinking water. Access is limited for huge rigs. No cell service in the ride camp.
DIRECTIONS: From Highway 101, take the Highway 36 exit just south of Fortuna. Continue east on 36 for about 30 miles to the bridge at Bridgeville. Turn right at the end of the bridge; you’ll be heading to Blocksburg. Follow signs about two miles until you see a marked pipe and wire gate on the right side of the road. Turn right into camp. Make sure you’re watching for ribbons and signage. Coming from the north take I-5, to Hwy 299 to Hwy 101, go south, and follow the above.
