The Redwood Empire Endurance Riders invite you to join them at this year’s Redwood Ride in Orick, California. Ride camp is at the fairgrounds, 45-minutes north of Eureka on scenic Highway 101.
RIDER LIMIT: This ride is limited to 80 riders, combined for all distances. Entry requests will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis. Historically, this ride has filled to its limit by mid-July. Please plan accordingly and submit your ride application early.
TRAIL: There will be a 50-mile endurance ride and a 35-mile Limited Distance AERC ride.
Redwood Ride is a bucket list ride! Its special due to the trails in the spectacular Redwood National Park and its awesome old-growth redwood forest. Ride beneath enormous Redwood stands and peaceful alder groves. You may even spot a few late-blooming Rhododendrons above you, or some Tiger Lilies, Violets, or Monkey Flowers on the forest floor. The park is home to an abundance of wildlife. The most frequent sightings are elk, bears, grouse, bees, banana slugs, frogs, and osprey. The trail is made up of soft single-track, old logging roads, and maintained service roads. The weather is usually foggy and cool in the mornings with sunny afternoons. Conditions within the forest for the horse and rider teams are not usually hot; however, they can be quite humid. This ride is a moderate-to-difficult rated ride. The footing can be very technical, with undulating topography and tree roots, and the high humidity require a fit horse and rider team. This isn't a good trail to race! Please ride carefully and responsibly. Respect for volunteers (this includes ride management), good sportsmanship and horsemanship are paramount for REER.
Due to the nature of the remoteness of this forest we cannot get a rescue crew to you if you go off trail or have an emergency. We use a CB club to track riders at key points on old logging roads.
The focus is always on friends, fun, and fairness to the horse. The ride will climb from sea level in camp to around 1,200 feet, with a total elevation gain during the ride – due to many changes in elevation – of approximately 7,000 ft. The vet checks will be away from camp.
DIRECTIONS: From either direction, follow Highway 101 to the center of the town of Orick. Coming from the south, just before the Redwood Creek Bridge, turn right at the Orick School and follow Drydens Road to the Orick Rodeo Grounds and Horse Camp. Coming from the north, just as you drive over the Redwood Creek Bridge, turn left at the Orick School and follow Drydens Road to the Orick Rodeo Grounds and Horse Camp. RIDE ADDRESS:Orick Rodeo Grounds, 1000 Drydens Road, Orick, CA 95555. RIDE RULES: Redwood Ride complies with all AERC and REER ride rules. Dogs are allowed in camp if on a six-foot leash at all times. No dogs are allowed in the vet check or dinner areas, period. Open fires are not permitted. Those who bring extra horses (horses not participating in the ride) must pay a fee of $5 per horse per day. Ride management is responsible for a per-horse fee paid to Orick Rodeo Grounds. All riders and volunteers must complete and sign the general release on the rider entry form. RIDE CAMP: Opens at FRIDAY at noon and closes MONDAY at noon at the Orick Rodeo Grounds. Friday, Saturday & Sunday nights camping fees are included in the ride entry fee. Additional camping days are usually available by contacting the Orick Horse Camp at 707-601-4129 for reservations. Pay the Orick Chamber of Commerce (Orick Horse Camp) directly for additional nights and horses. There are a small number of corrals available to rent on a first-come, first-served basis. We charge a $25 fee per night for the use of a corral on Friday, Saturday & Sunday nights. Pay at check-in. If you are coming prior to Friday and want a corral, you must make reservations through Orick Horse Camp at 707-601-4129. There is horse water in camp as well as flush toilets and coin operated showers. There will be a porta-potty at the away vet check. Water at the away vet check has to be trucked in, use sparingly, bring people water. If you arrive and camp early, before Friday, please note there is a parking volunteer to assign spots to each rig. Do not plan to spread out, we have a lot of rigs coming.
FOOD: There will be NO potluck Friday night before the ride meeting. A catered dinner Saturday night is included for each rider. A meal will be provided on Sunday. Extra dinner/meal tickets ($20.00) must be purchased in advance with your ride entry. If you are riding Sunday only and want to eat Saturday night, you will need to pay $20 for each dinner. All registered volunteers eat free! Wrist bands identify riders and volunteers. See the ride manager to register as a volunteer. SCHEDULE OF EVENTS: Friday Afternoon: Ride packet pick-up at registration. Bring your Saturday vet card & horse for the pre-ride vet exam. Friday Evening: Pre-ride meeting at 7:00 pm. Bring your map to study the trail. Ride Start Times: Saturday & Sunday: 6:00 am for the 50-mile ride. 8:00 am for the 35-mile ride. Saturday Night: A catered dinner at 6 pm, followed by the awards and a review of Sunday's trail. Bring your dinner ticket. Sunday Meal: A meal will be provided, more info to follow. Bring your meal ticket.

Cancellation Refunds: - When a rider gives written notice to the Ride Manager at least one week (7 days) prior to the ride (by midnight Friday, July 31st) a full refund will be offered. - REER does not provide a refund for no-shows. - Ride Manager has the discretion for late cancellation refund to rider who has extenuating/emergency circumstances. - For the horse that doesn't pass pre-ride vet exam, you'll receive a refund, less $35 administrative fee or costs incurred. - Refund is issued when and how it is convenient Ride Manager. - Current REER members may cancel up to Friday before the ride, with notice to RM, and receive a full refund.
